Announcing event In my VEG BOX ~ Spring Onion


This month In my VEG BOX event this month ,we have the spring onions. It is a  lovely vegetabl that can be eaten raw in salads ,used as garnishes or cooked  in stews , curries , stir fries to give a lovely onion flavour that's subtle but flavorsome.

Announcing event Taste of Tropics ~Dates


This month citrusspiceuk is excited to be guest hosting the wonderful and on going event Taste of Tropics by Chef Mireille of East West Realm. For this event I have chosen dates. I love dates they are really versatile as sweeteners in sweet dishes and desserts and also make a lovely addition to savoury dishes too. Dates are come from the fruit of date palms. They can be eaten fresh raw or even dried as snacks or added  in recipes. Dates are very popular in Middle Eastern cuisine. They are healthy  and have many good health benefits.

Announcing Event In my VEG BOX~TOMATOES


The tomato plant originated in South America and was domesticated by the Incas as early as 700 A.D. It is now the most commonly grown "vegetable". although most people call it a vegetable tomato is actually classified as a fruit. Tomatoes are a valuable source of food minerals and vitamins, particularly vitamins A and C. Research has shown that people who eat large amounts of tomatoes or tomato products may be at lower risk of some kinds of cancer.

There are many types of tomatoes such as cherry tomatoes, plum tomatoes, beef tomatoes and standard tomatoes. Tomatoes come in a range of colours from deep reds through orange to bright yellow with some rarer varieties being striped, green when ripe and very dark.

Tomatoes are very versatile, they can be eaten raw in salads, salsas, cold soups, chutneys and juices and also used in a variety of dishes of cooked dishes such as soups, curries, sauces and condiments.

Announcing event In my VEG BOX ~ Carrots

Vegetables contain large amounts of vitamins and minerals. They are rich in calcium, magnesium, potassium, iron, beta-carotene, vitamin B-complex, vitamin-C, vitamin A, and vitamin K. They have antioxidants that help to protect the body from diseases and increase the body’s immune system. Vegetables are high in fibre which aids the body maintain balance and provide valuable nutrients to the body. Furthermore vegetables are low in fat and calories and help to reduce cholesterol, heart diseases and many other illnesses.

Citrusspice is introducing a new series of events called In my VEG BOX, This will be a monthly event where one vegetable will be chosen to cook with.

The month of January (1st Jan -31st Jan 2014) In my VEG BOX we shall have carrots. This event is all about cooking with carrots.
