Flavours of Lisbon cookery class with Monarch Airlines

I have flown with Monarch Airline  to many holiday destinations, but it was only a few weeks ago that they added a  new flight path to Lisbon flying from Birmingham, Manchester and Gatwick.. In celebration of this, I was invited with a group of bloggers to attend an evening hosted by Monarch Airlines to sample and cook some dishes from Lisbon.

After enjoying some drinks and nibbles, it was a hands on cookery class at L’Atelier des Chefs to learn some Portuguese cooking.

We loved our Bright purple aprons, the royal colours of Monarch Airlines and got ready for our cooking experience.

The menu of the evening was Carne de Porco a Alentejana , this was a pork and clam dish that is very famous in Portugal. 

For the vegetarians the recipe was adapted and we created a tomato based stew with spicy hot baked aubergines.

The dessert we made was Pasteis de Nata (Portuguese custard Tart). These mouthwatering tarts were made with melt in the mouth flakey pastry and filled with a delicious custard filling.

We were guided through the different cooking stages with demonstrations and then we prepped all the ingredients in small groups and prepared our main course and the dessert. 

Once the food was ready we sat down to enjoy a delicious Portuguese meal accompanied with wine and soft drinks.

My friend Heidi and I really had an enjoyable evening as guests of Monarch Airlines. All views and opinions in this post are of my experience of the evening.

Cooking with Old El Paso at Food at 52 and a giveaway

Mexican food is firm favorite in my house, we love the flavours and easy recipes that can be created with simple ingredients. Some of our favorite Mexican recipes are tortillas, burritos, enchiladas, nachos and we love the salsa and the guacamoles.

Old El Paso make cooking Mexican food easy with their deliciou range of sauces, salsas and the ready to fill taco and tortilla  shells and burritos. They recently hosted a Mexican cookery class at Food at 52, a cookery school in Old Street which I absolutely adore having been there several times to cook.

As we waited for the rest of the team to arrive we were spoilt with some delicious nibbles and drinks to get us in the mood of the Mexican evening.

Attending these cookery events are always fun because not only do you get some recipe inspiration from the product, get to enjoy the food created but also make some new foodie friends too.

The cookery session was fun, the vegetarians made a filling of sweet potato, onions, peppers and courgettes  while the non vegetarians created a filling from mince and also chopped  lots of lovely salad toppings to go on top of the tortillas.

I was a guest of Old El Paso at Food at 52 and this post is all about my personal experience of the evening.

Cook with Neff

With the great British Bake off currently on air, there seems to be a baking frenzy around. Everyone is talking about cakes and bakes, the star baker of the week, the flop of the week and also all the equipment and ingredients that the bakers are using.

Recently I was invited to a baking session at the Neff headquarters in Milton Keynes organised by Currys to try out their slide and hide ovens that are featured on the bake off. These ovens are pretty cool with all sorts of amazing features as doors that slide and hide. touch controls that  making setting your oven temperature a breeze and even having self cleaning and ovens that have a wonderful steaming drawer/ cavity  that regulates the oven temperature to give perfect baking.The ovens were simply amazing and I most certainly want one on my christmas wishlist.

There were some 20 bloggers that were present and we had a wonderful time all working together in small groups creating some awesome dishes  for our lunch.

We cooked  flatbreads, wild boar patties, savory tartlets, quiche lorraine, couscous and green salads, roasted vegetable tarts, pull and share breads and delicious desserts.

The Neff slide and hide ovens made the baking so easy with their simple programmable touch button features. We soon rustled up some desserts to finish off our elaborate lunch.

Cooking with Coori at Food at 52

I have been a vegetarian all my life and  until very recently, I always found it very hard to eat out , finding suitable vegetarian food when I went abroad, or simply explaining to people that it was not OK to eat fish or animal products added to vegetarian dishes. I thought I had it hard but I have a friend that has a gluten intolerance and it seems that for her its is even more difficult to find places that will have a dish that is gluten free. Furthermore there are limited ready meal options for people with a gluten free diets. However this is about to change as Coori have developed a delicious range of gluten free products that are perfect for people with allergies, gluten free diets and nut allergies.

The evening was so much fun  and we didn't even realise that the spread of nibbles and appetizers on offer were gluten free. They all tasted amazing.

Food at 52 has amazing kitchen space where we were taught how to make gluten free ravioli from scratch served with sage butter. I didn't realise that making pasta from scratch could be so easy and that working with gluten free flours is not as difficult as one would anticipate.

We created our own ravioli with various fillings and enjoyed it for our meal with gluten free profiteroles as dessert. It was a really enjoyable event  and I am really excited at the range of products that are available from coori. I can now create a lovely gluten free product hamper for my friend for her up coming birthday.
