Stockholm in 3 days Stockholm City Library

Stockholm is one of the most scenic cities in the world and it is rich in history. A visit to this place is a must for those who enjoy city breaks. All the sights can easily be covered in a day. If you haven’t read my Stockholm day 1 and Stockholm day 2 posts, I highly recommend you do. My guide to exploring the city on a budget explains how you can do that. We had half a day to explore Stockholm on our third and final day before leaving for the airport late in the afternoon. We packed our bags and checked out of our hostel after breakfast. The hostel provided storage for our luggage as we explored more of Stockholm. 

Observatorielunden Park and Observatory in Stockholm City

The first place we visited was Observatorielunden, a park close to Drottninggatan. There is an observatory that dates back to the 1700s on the hilltop. A cafeteria and ample seating allow you to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere only a few minutes from the city centre.

The famous Stockholm Central library in Stockholm City is only a short walk from Observatorielunden. You will wonder what is so special about it? 

Gunnar Asplund created the Stockholm Public Library. He was a world-famous architect who designed this beautiful library. The design is called Swedish Grace and a it is one of the most visited library in Stockholm City due to its unique design.

There are spiralling book shelves on several floors, that house thousands of literature. Just walking around these corridors and feeling the books is an experience in its self.

After the library we walked into town and stumbled across a flea market in the Stockholm city centre. We obviously had to stop and take a look. Those of you who know me must know that I have prop obsession as I also write a food blog. The Flea market was a good find. I found some pretty vintage spoons to bring home.

Choijs Pancakes

All the sight seeing and walking makes you hungry. It was time for another fika, Swedish coffee and cake stop so we stopped at Choijs Pancakes in Stockholm City Center. The pancakes were very tempting. The mouth watering pancakes were simply delectable, we gave in and ordered a pancake each. Greedily as we ploughed through them we had to admit defeat as neither of us could manage to finish our plates. After a final look in the shops we had to collect our luggage and make way to the airport for our flight home.

Vasa Museum, Abba Museum and Fotografiska

If you come on a Stockholm City Break, don’t forget to check out the many museums in Stockholm City. We would have liked to see the Vrak, a museum about wrecks, and the Vasa Museum. The museum is based on the only ship that was salvaged from the 17th century. This would have been a highlight if we had more time. For ABBA fans, a visit to the ABBA Museum is a must and of course, for those who like photography, the museum of Fotografiska, photography museum is another one not to miss. It is set in a custom house showcasing contemporary art.

Our three day Stockholm city break was really enjoyable. There were many things we would have liked to do and places to visit which we hope we can do next time we go to Stockholm.
