London Christmas Lights

During the weeks leading up to Christmas, enjoy Christmassy shop window displays, breath taking street lights and famous landmarks lit up. The decorations and London Christmas lights attract a lot of people to these shops and streets during the holiday season.

The City Of London

The city of London lies on both sides of the River Thames. London is the capital city of the United Kingdom. In addition to being among the oldest cities in the world, London also has a centuries-long history. Tourists flock in hundreds to the city of London to visit the city’s tourist hotspots.

The city offers a wide range of activities, including iconic sightseeing, fun-filled day trips, top restaurants, and theatre performances. A popular list of attractions includes Buckingham Palace, the South Bank, the Millennium Wheel, the Tower of London, London Dungeons, and Hyde Park. The main shopping streets in London are Oxford Street, Regent Street, and Bond Street.

Christmas Lights in London walking tours

The Christmas lights tour can be done either on a London tour bus or on foot. It takes approximately 1.5 hours on a tour bus. If you do the tour on foot it can take as long as you want. I would recommend to allow at least a minimum of two hours. There will be ample opportunities to snap lots of pictures and take advantage of coffee stops.

We decided to do the tour on foot. It is best to begin the walk around 3 pm in December when it is getting dark to make the most of the London Christmas Lights. Winter temperatures are chilly in London. It is highly recommended to wear layers of warm clothing, hats, gloves, and most importantly, comfortable shoes.

New Molton Street Christmas Lights

There are many routes you can follow to see the London Christmas Lights 2022. We opted to take a train to Bond Street and start our Christmas Lights walk from there. From Bond Street Station, we turned left onto Oxford Street and then onto New Molton Street to see the street decorated with a series of blue-lighted arches which were absolutely gorgeous.

New and Old Bond Christmas Streets

As we walked through Brook Street, we came to both New and Old Bond Streets. The Christmas street lights here are displayed in the form of crowns. Also on the corner is the Fenwick store, which is beautifully lit up.

We continued walking through New Bond Street and Old Bond Street. It is home to some of the most gorgeous shop fronts in the city. Particularly impressive were the decorations in the Dior, Chanel and Cartier stores.

Royal Arcade and Burlington Arcade Christmas Decorations and Lights

It was very cold and snowing, making the views even more magical. To warm up, we stopped for a coffee at the Royal Arcade. An indoor shopping arcade decorated with beautiful Christmas trees is located within this Grade 11 listed building. As we continued our tour, we stopped by the Burlington Arcade, which was exquisitely decorated with Christmas lights decorations.

Piccadilly Circus Christmas lights

Our next stop was Picadilly Circus, where Fortnum and Mason is located. We admired the advent calendar-themed storefront and took lots of pictures. Beautiful windows with gold and red numbers decorate the building. As we walked down Regent Street, we caught sight of amazing Christmas street lights shimmering, forming angels and spreading wings and silver stars.

Soho and Carnaby Christmas Street lights

It was time for another photo stop before heading towards Soho and Carnaby Street. Carnaby Street’s light displays were equally impressive. Glistening in the darkness, they were a rainbow of colours.

Leicester Square Christmas Market

We followed the route towards Leicester Square to visit the Christmas Market. Christmas carols played in the background, setting a very festive atmosphere. Besides food stalls, there were stalls selling Christmas decorations and gifts. Before continuing our walk it was time for another stop. We warmed up with cups of piping hot chocolate and took time to enjoy the festive atmosphere.

Seven Dials and Covent Garden Christmas Lights and Decorations

Moving on from Leicester Square, we made our way to Covent Garden. Our route took us past the Seven Dials, where we saw strings of pink lights sparkle in the night sky. After walking through the seven dials, we arrived at Covent Garden, our final stop.

A spectacular sight greeted us. It was a picturesque winter scene in Covent Garden Market Square with a large pink and silver Christmas tree. There is a Dolce and Gabbana pop-up shop nearby that is decked out in a mosaic of coloured lights.

We walked inside the market square after another photo stop. Christmas baubles cascaded from the ceilings and oversized mistletoe-shaped decorations adorned the halls. The Christmas Lights Of London tour came to an end here. It was the most magical experience and definitely worth doing. We did the walk at a leisurely pace with lots of stops. It took us approximately 2.5 hours. to enjoy the London Christmas Lights 2022
