Cafes in Brno Czech Republic

Brno is a coffee lover’s dream place, there are numerous cafes in Brno. This is not surprising as Brno’s café and coffee culture date back to 1702. In Brno you can experience the finest of coffees; this is not new since the baristas from Brno have been regularly winning international competitions for the last few years. Brno has many coffee-roasting plants creating some delicious blends.

Drinking coffee is a popular activity. Almost every corner, nook, and cranny in the city has a café in Brno. A walking tour of the cafes in Brno is the most convenient way to discover the cafes in the city. With the help of a local guide, explore the most awesome cafes in Brno, discover the different varieties of coffee, and find out about the history of coffee. This is a pleasant way to begin a morning, visiting and trying different cafes.

Zemanova Kavarna a Cukrarna

You can experience the vintage feel of a 50’s cafe at Zemanova Kavarna a Cukrarna, Brno’s oldest cafe. Relax while enjoying traditional cakes and aromatic coffee.

Yummy Lamy

There are many cool cafes in Brno, Yummy Lamy is one of my favourite cafes. The café is themed around llamas. There are cuddly llamas scattered around the café. If you want cute overload this is the place to visit. You can even purchase llama themed gifts here. Coffee is served in cute adorable llama cups which are simply adorable.

The cakes are absolutely delicious and second to none. Do try the Kronut which is a combination of a croissant and doughnut or a Kroffin which is a combination of a croissant and muffin. There is a delicious variety of flavours to choose from.

Sorry pečeme jinak (Sorry, We Bake Differently)

I also visited Sorry pečeme jinak (Sorry, We Bake Differently) in Brno. This café has a crafty theme. Visitors are encouraged to make origami birds whilst sipping their coffee. These are displayed hanging from the café’s ceiling.

The café serves the Traditional Czech Moss cake but with a twist, it has real edible crickets on it!!! I was not brave enough to try it but my brave friend did. There are lots of delectable cakes to choose from, not only do they look gorgeous but taste awesome too.

Industra Coffee

While I was in Brno, I also had the opportunity to attend a Latte art class with Industra Coffee. It’s an amazing coffee workshop located in an old industrial warehouse that used to be a freezing plant. The location is a bit off the beaten track, but definitely worth the effort to reach it. It has quirky décor with a very industrial feel. People can stop by and enjoy coffee and cake and even take part in a Latte Art class.

The class was very interactive and we watched the barista create some amazing latte art. It was even more interesting when I was able to create my own designs.

I realised it was not as easy as our expert made it look. It was certainly a fun way to spend an afternoon; after all, you can’t go wrong with coffee and cake. From the pictures below I am sure you can can guess which were my attempts!!

Café Atlas

In Brno there are many cafes worth visiting if you are a coffee connoisseur who enjoys premium coffee. Café Atlas stands out as the most colourful café in Brno. Over 400 illustrations from old atlases decorate the 13-metre-wide wallpaper of Café. Suitable for people with allergies, the café offers vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free food.

Punkt café

Punkt café is a very popular spot. They describe them selves as “A piece of Berlin in Brno” This café is a fashionable place to hang out from dawn to dusk, drinking coffee during the day and wine or beer at night. It also offers a wide range of delicious pies, cakes and desserts. The café offers gluten-free and vegan options as well. 

PF Café

Next to the new town hall is PF Café. The décor is cosy and there are plenty of small alcoves to sit in. There is no better place to sit and enjoy a cup of coffee than this quaint café. The café also has outside seating when the weather is warm. They serve delicious cakes and several types of coffee.

Skog Urban Hub

Another café that you do not want to miss is Skog Urban Hub. A Skog is a forest in Norwegian. This is why the café has been designed in a Scandinavian style with white walls, wooden floors, and high ceilings that give it a sense of nature. During the evening, the café transforms into a busy bar, where wine and spirits are served.

Whether you prefer Espresso, Espresso Lungo or Capuccino, there are many artisan blends of coffee you can enjoy brewed with different methods, including V60, Chemex or Aeropress. Each café serves different blend of coffee from different roasting plants enabling you to try many different varieties.

I am not a huge coffee drinker but Brno has shown me that I too can enjoy coffee, and savour the atmosphere whilst taking a well-deserved break watching the world pass by. Drinking coffee is not a mere pastime, its an experience to be enjoyed.
