Liberec, Ještěd Tower, Panská Skála and Sychrov Castle
I had a wonderful time in the Czech Republic. Located just a couple of hours away from Prague, Liberec is surrounded by rolling hills, farmlands, chateaus, forests, and castles. The Liberec and Crystal Valley region in Slovakia offers some beautiful sights such as Liberec, Ještěd Tower, Panská Skála and Sychrov Castle.
Liberec
The city of Liberec was once the largest manufacturing centre in the Czech Republic. It’s a convenient stop if you want to explore the Jizera Mountains and Crystal Valley. There are many fascinating places to explore near Liberec and its surrounding areas.

City Hall – Doctor Edward Benes Square in Liberec
It’s worth visiting the City Hall in Doctor Edward Benes Square, Liberec. The City Hall was built between 1888 and 1893 in Renaissance style. It’s like Vienna City Hall, built in Neo-Gothic style. It’s got stained glass windows with pictures of science, art, trade, and textiles, and a 450kg chandelier hanging from the ceiling. 130 years ago, the chandelier was lit by gas. The original organ still plays during services.

As well as hosting weddings, the city hall hosts graduations and christenings. The hall is used for swearing in politicians.

It is possible to climb 40 meters up onto the roof of the City Hall and enjoy views of Liberec Town and the Jizera Mountains.

Ještěd Tower in Liberec
One of the most iconic symbols of Liberec is the Ještěd Tower. Ještěd Tower was the brainchild of architect Karel Hubacek. He came up with the novel idea to build a television transmitter, restaurant and hotel on Ještěd mountain at an altitude of 1012m. From a distance Ještěd Tower looks like a UFO perched on a hill top. It is constructed by using the latest technology and patents.. Hotel Ještěd has 1 apartment and 10 comfort rooms. You can wake up to the stunning views of Liberec and get the feeling you are staying in the clouds.

The Ještěd restaurant has four parts which connect to form a circle. Whilst visiting Liberec a sunset dinner at the restaurant is worth considering. In addition to multinational cuisine, you can also savour some delicious Czech dishes in the restaurant and take in incredible views.

Panská Skála-Kamenický Šenov
One of the highlights of Kamenický Šenov, a town in the Liberec Region of the Czech Republic, is to see Panská Skála, a rock formation made up of basalt columns. Visitors can recognised the volcanic basalt formations by their hexagonal columns. They arranged vertically and extend up to 12 meters long.

A must visit place in the Liberec Region is Panská Skála. You can find Panská Skála in the middle of green hills and a lake. A lake formed by flooded mine pits surrounds this area. It is possible to climb up the Panská Skála. I found it a bit steep to climb to the top. However, I did get up far enough to capture some beautiful views including a rainbow.

Český ráj-Liberec Region
For nature lovers, I would highly recommend a visit to Český ráj a protected area in the region of Bohemia. It’s the country’s first nature reserve. Over time, the atmosphere, rain, winds, and erosion have carved this city of rocks out of clusters of sandstone rocks. It is one of the best nature reserves in the Liberec Region.

At Český ráj you will find a series of narrow alleyways formed between the rocks and trees, making the area very mysterious. This area of Liberec Region is scenic and offers many opportunities for hiking, walking, cycling, and exploring the countryside and the nearby towns of Mnichovo Hradiště and Turnov.

Sychrov Castle and Park-Sychrov
A few miles away from the village of Sychrov, there is Sychrov Castle and Parks. The castle is a Neo-Gothic structure. There’s a big park surrounding the castle. Also, in the castle grounds, there is a lovely café, where visitors and guests can also enjoy coffee and light lunch.

The fairy-tale image of Sychrov Castle and Park makes it popular with tourists. It is a popular filming location. Inside the chateau there are French portraits, a collection of weapons, and the memorial hall of A. Dvořak. The bedrooms have richly carved wooden embellishments and original furniture, paintings and other accessories. If you are planning to visit the Sychrov Castle and Park to tour the chateau, it is advisable to prebook the tickets and guide.
