Travelling with children

Travelling with kids to a new city can be a fantastic learning experience for children. Motherly highlights the lifelong benefits that kids get when experiencing a new place whether abroad or at home. Travelling enables children to expand their worldview and experience different places and cultures first-hand, all of which enhance their empathy. Children will enjoy city trips where they can explore parks, museums, and many other child-friendly attractions. Given these benefits, parents should set their trips up for success to leave the best impression on their young minds. Here, we list five must-have items for travelling in large cities.

Pushchair

Pushchair is one piece of equipment it really pays to invest in with modern models designed for easy city travelling. iCandy’s highly rated single pushchairs come with an adjustable, multi-function SPF 50+ canopy. It has a multi-position large viewing window that will protect your younger kids from the sun. In addition, its ‘urban’ set of wheels is perfect for a city trip, providing a lightweight, compact city stroller. You can easily push along with a child of up to 25kg. While a pushchair is convenient to have, particularly for city travel, make sure to allow some time for your child to walk on their own. This will allow some exercise rather than keeping them strapped in a stroller all day.

All weather clothing

While it can be tempting to keep up with your “OOTD” outfit of the day for great pictures, it’s best to maximise comfort over looks when travelling with children. If you’re planning to do something out in the cold, such as a London walking tour, it’s important that you prepare for chilly weather. We recommend that you invest in a good all-weather jacket. The Ranger II Waterproof Kids Parka Jacket will keep them warm on colder days, while also being breathable for when you are inside. You may want waterproof outerwear for your kids if it’s snowing, so they don’t get wet and uncomfortable while playing.

Digital Tablet

Although it may seem counterintuitive to bring gadgets while on a trip, being able to provide entertainment during the boring commutes will avoid child temper tantrums. Compared to a phone, a digital tablet has a bigger screen kids can interact with. The Amazon Fire 7 Kids Tablet comes with a complimentary subscription to Amazon Kids which will keep them entertained. It also has strong parental controls. Before arriving at your destination, you can build up your children’s travel interest by viewing digital books or movies about the place you will visit on the tablet. Some destinations also have apps that will make the experience interactive

GPS Tracking Device

When travelling with kids, losing a child is one of a parent’s biggest nightmares, and in big cities, you can potentially get separated in big crowds. Parents should teach their children how to handle the situation to keep them safe, but for extra safety parents can invest in a GPS-tracking device. The GPS tracker Jiobit Smart Tag is a small yet versatile device that provides real-time location tracking via a mobile app. The device has an integrated loop that allows parents to secure the tag to backpacks or clothing. Furthermore, the device can last over a week before needing to be fully charged again— allowing you to track your child on a weekend trip without worrying about it dying out

Snacks and Drinks

Visiting a big city can be draining, making it crucial that you have snacks and drinks to help your family rest and recuperate. You should always carry water to ensure proper hydration. While snacks don’t seem necessary for a bustling city travel, it’s worth having a few familiar snacks on hand. This is especially important if your child has any food allergies or can be picky with their food. When you travel with kids remember to pack their favourite baked goods like cookies, some healthy portable snacks you can bring include dehydrated fruit, trail mix, and veggie chips.

Travelling large cities with kids should be a fun experience. I hope the above tips will help you to have a great family experience next time you plan to travel with your children. Very sensible and helpful list for traveling large cities with kids. I like the GPS tracker the best – very helpful!

Yes the gps tracker is a brilliant idea and a life saver.

Traveling with kids is not easy. I never forget to bring snacks and drinks.

I was so worried about travelling with my daughter when she was younger. All I did was to make sure she got everything she wanted, that way, I had peace of mind and fun.

These are great tips for those with kids. My niece is older, making it much easier to vacation. It can actually be a trip instead of a nightmare, as it was when she was younger.

It is difficult to travel with kids, the trick is to have activities they can enjoy and space them out so there is plenty of time to rest in between.

All the snacks! That’s the key to travel with my youngest son for sure. Having clothing options and having a way to track them helps, too. I’ve also seen people writing their phone number right on their child in a way to make it easy to contact in case of an emergency.

lol I used to write the phone number on my daughters arm when she was young.

I agree with you and GPs Tracking device is magical. No only on the children themselves, but it is great to keep track of their backpacks or belongings, or keys while your attention is on the children 🙂

I swear by GPS trackers I use them in my suitcase it is so useful.

A GPS tracking device sounds just about right! It always comes in handy!

It sure does. Great for luggage too.

Very good article. So much sound and sensible advice especially about the GPS tracker and taking snacks too x

I never travel without snacks, you never know when you may need them.

Having clothes for kids is important and the pushchair as well. This is very helpful for travelers with kids.
